Poor woman deprived of Govt benefits

It is now a question of survival for Pyasa and her three children after the demise of her husband in Goa eight months back. She has been running from pillar to post with tearful eyes for her husband’s dead body and death certificate.

In September 2013, Jashobanta Dehury and some of his friends of Subdega in Sundargarh had gone to Goa in search of jobs. After being engaged in fishing job in sea, he fell sick. While returning home on November 6 last, he died on the way.

Getting his identity the South Goa police kept his body in a morgue, and on November 8 Pyasa was informed by the Morgan police to come over to Goa to identify the body. For poor Pyasa, it was not possible to move to Goa with her three little children (of 7, 5 and 2 years).

Pyasa met the Sundargarh Collector on November 11. Though the Collector had an interaction with the Goa police, now eight long months have elapsed. Neither has she got her husband’s body or death certificate.

As she has no proof of her husband’s death, she is still deprived of all Government-sponsored benefits including widow pension. Now, it is extremely difficult for Pyasa to maintain her family.

Similarly a few days back, a youth of Pidha Pathar village of  Tangargaon GP in the district died in Goa, and so far his body has not been received by his family members.

It is to be mentioned that every year thousand of youths are travelling to Goa and other places outside Odisha in search of jobs, and many of them are dying there. But neither their family members are getting the dead bodies nor any benefits.
