Two cadre Maoists and six militia members of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) on Thursday surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district.

The ultras surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra at the district police headquarters.

The two surrendered cadre Maoists Unga Madkami and Adama Kartami had a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads. The duo had been with the Kalimela Dalam of the CPI(Maoist) for five years, police said.

They said they had quit the organisation because Maoists have deviated from their ideology and are engaged in inflicting atrocities on general public.

Police said the surrendered Maoists were  involved in Gurumurti Madhi’s murder, Keriaguda murder, Silakuta double  murder, Kurub murder, Niliguda panchayat building explosion and several other acts of violence.

“The surrendered Maoists and militias will be provided with rehabilitation facilities as per Government rules and regulations,” said the Malkangiri SP.
