Eight Maoists were killed and 50 arrested while 13 surrendered during 2019 across the State, said a report of the Assembly Standing Committee on Home Department tabled in the House.
It said that 44 Leftwing extremism incidents were reported in last year of which 12 were exchanges of fire between security personnel and Maoists.
The report of the committee, headed by BJD MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, also said police seized 21 guns, 30 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and large quantities of ammunitions during anti-Maoist operations.
Now, Maoist activities in the State are by and large under control, the report said. However, it added that the situation remains challenging in some parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir and Nabarangpur districts.
To review the situation in the LWE-affected areas and to carefully monitor the anti-Maoist operations carried out by State security personnel and the Central Armed Police Force, a State-level Unified Command under the chairmanship of the State Chief Secretary has been constituted the report pointed out.
