A fraudster has been taken into custody in Jajpur district on the charge of duping as many as 78 unemployed youths by giving false job offers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Accused Anil Jena had devised an ingenious ploy and taken the job aspirants for a ride by false appointment letters and fake visas. His luck ran out as one of the deceived youths, Basanta Kumar Giri of Nathpur village under Bari block, lodged an FIR against him,

The youth had got “an offer of job” as a mechanic in Abu Dhabi in the UAE with a monthly salary of Rs 50,000. The fake visa agent collected around Rs 40 lakh from at least 78 youths of villages of Nathpur, Balichandrapur, Alihabada, Kadamapala, Bari, Ramachandrapur and other villages.

The job aspirants had arrived at the International Airport in Kolkata on Monday for departure to the UAE, but it was found out that their flight tickets, entry permits, insurance papers and visa papers were all forged ones.

“Acting on the FIR, the Jajpur police started investigation and arrested Jena. More persons involved in the racket would be arrested in this case soon, said IIC of Bari police station S Kanungo.

"It is a ruse on the part of the agent to lure cooks of these areas to Singapore by promising more money. We had previously warned jobseekers not to fall prey to bogus advertisements in newspapers offering work in any country. The agent provided them forged employment visa, insurance papers, work permit and other fake papers," said District labour Officer Jit Mohan Hansda.
