There are 7,554 children in the State whose parents have been incapable and inefficient to bring them up, informed Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP MlA Rabinarayan Nayak on Friday.
According to information, as many as 1,591 orphans are residing in various childcare homes in the State now. The State Government has so far rescued 2,032 children while they were working as child labourers at different workplaces. Similarly, the Government has rescued 138 children who were living on alms and put them in different childcare homes.
The Minister further informed that a total of Rs 800.39 crore has been allocated this for undertaking preventive measures against malnutrition.
