While mystery still shrouds Balangir district’s Patnagarh gift parcel explosion case in which software engineer Soumyuasekhar Sahu and his grandmother were killed and his bride Reemarani was critically injured, DGP RP Sharma on Monday said police have got several vital leads to crack the case soon.

“The Crime Branch, which is probing the case, has got vital leads and the case will be cracked soon,” informed Dr Sharma while speaking to mediapersons here.

In the latest development, Crime Branch sleuths detained seven persons including two lecturers of the Bhaisa College and the Patnagarh Skyking courier service owner. They were interrogated at the Circuit House in Balangir.

On the day, the CB sleuths also visited the Bhaisa College along with a sniffer dog and questioned the college staffs. Reports said the dog led the cops to the house of a lecturer, Punjilal Meher, from where some incriminating documents were seized.

Besides Meher, the other six persons whom the probe agency detained were Bhaisa College lecturer Shiv Shaw, Skyking courier owner Dilip Das and courier boy Sushant Seth, Umesh Matari, Chandramani Meher and Baibhasuta Bindhani.

During the interrogation, Baibhasuta, who belongs to Komna in Nuapada district, made an important confession saying that along with his father he had been arrested in 2011 for running an illegal gun factory. Besides, a murder case is pending against him.

The Crime Branch officials had also questioned the deceased bridegroom Soumyasekhar’s parents on Sunday.

The officials had interrogated Meher and Sekhar’s mother Sanjukta Sahu, who also works in the same college, face to face after knowing that there was a feud between them over the Head of the Department post.

Notably, the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, is yet to trace the parcel sender even after two months of the incident. The team had visited Raipur in Chhattisgarh and grilled the owner of the local Skyking courier service and ascertained that the wedding gift sender was conversing both in Hindi and Odia. However, the police have failed to nab anyone till now.
