Of late, the Baleswar police have drawn severe flak from several quarters over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.

The cops have been criticised for failing to curb crimes like murder, snatching and loot in the Baleswar town and its pheriphery.

In this scenario, police have managed to crack the murder of one Satyabrata Das of village Sunahata, that occurred on the Chandipur road on Sunday by arresting seven persons allegedly involved in it.

Eastern Range IG Himanshu Lal said it was a difficult case to crack and several teams were formed and the perpetrators’ were nabbed.

Those arrested were identified as Anna Swami, Siba Prasad Jena, Premananda  Malik,Prasant Kumar Malik, Subasis Das, Naba Ray Sunhat  and Bhabani Shankar Sahu.

During course of investigation police ascertained the murder was planned and the main conspirators were Anna Swami and Naba Ray, middlemen in land deals.

They had an enmity with the deceased over sharing of money in a land deal and a liquor shop.

The duo hired other goons and hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Satyabrata. On the fateful night when Satyabrata was returning home from Balramgadi on the Chandipur road they attacked him with a sharp weapon  that resulted in his death..

“The incident is the fallout of a past dispute over money sharing pertaining to a land broking and liquor shop earnings. The accused were rounded up and the weapon of offence and other articles were seized from their possession,” said Lal.

Meanwhile, the lawyers’ forum had threatened to embark on an agitation if the police fail to curb the surging crimes..

Police said vigil has been stepped up in view of the increase of crimes in the town and outskirts and the miscreants would be nabbed soon.
