7 Ganjam labourers rescued from China border

Thanks to the efforts of a rights defender here, seven migrant labourers from Ganjam district could be saved from human traffickers.

All the seven workers hailing from Hinjilicut were subjected to inhuman torture and exploitation as they were taken to Tamang along India-China border promising high wages and job security.

It was learnt that a labour agency based in Mumbai had first taken them to Assam border with an allurement of providing jobs. After reaching there, they were forcibly taken to Tamang bordering China. They were engaged in hard work. They were not given food and assaulted.

After knowing they were holed up by human traffickers, somehow they established contact with the villagers back home and took help rights defender Pramod Roul, who in turn established contact with the company officials in Mumbai and rescued the labourers from the human traffickers.

The labourers have been identified as Gangadhar Sethi, Nabaghana Gauda, Susant Sethi, Sisir Gauda, Seem a Das, Luna Nayak and Vijaya Sethi
