A seven-feet-long python was spotted on a field near a school at Kaima under Dharmasala block in Jajpur district on Monday night. It was later rescued by snake catchers.

Sources said that some locals first spotted the python at around 8 pm and immediately called up Snake Helpline members. Soon after, Snake Helpline member Tapan Prusty reached the spot and rescued the reptile.

The snake weighing about 15 kg appeared to be of around two-year-old, said Prusty, adding that it would be released back to its natural habitat soon.

“We were panicked. We had never seen such a huge snake in this area before,” said Dhaneswar Mohanty, a local.
