At least seven students of the Banki Autonomous College sustained injuries in a group clash in the college campus ahead of the Students’ Union election scheduled in October and were admitted at the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.
Tension prevailed at the college when a scuffle erupted between two groups of students.
According to sources, a heated argument was exchanged between the two groups for some reasons. However, the situation turned violent and went out of control when the rival groups attacked each other resulting in injuries to at least seven students from both the factions.
Following the mishap, some angry students of the groups staged road blockade in front of the college by burning tyres.
Though the reason of the group clash was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that it is the recurrence of a group clash that had occurred between the groups in the college a year back.
Police forces were deployed at the college premises to avoid any further untoward incidents. In view of the tense situation, the authorities declared the college sine die for an indefinite period and directed students to vacate the hostels immediately.
