681 hotels operate in State illegally

As many as 681 hotels are operating illegally without obtaining due permission from the State Pollution Control Board at different places in the State.

Odisha High Court lawyer Biranchi Narayan Mahapatra has lodged a complaint before the Eastern Zone Bench of the National Green Tribunal in Kolkata in this regard.

Admitting the case, the NGT bench has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Member Secretary, SPCB directing to submit replies within three weeks with detail status and action taken reports.

Mohapatra has alleged that the hotels and eateries are creating air and water pollution. They should have taken consent of the SPCB as mandated by the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.

This case would be put up on September 9, 2015, informed Mohapatra.
