About 600 lecturers and employees of Cuttack district under 662 category colleges of the State gheraoed the office of the District Magistrate and held a protest meeting demanding abolition of block grant and implementation of full grant-in-aid (GIA). They took out a rally from the Sunshine Field and reached the Collectorate in the forenoon on Friday where they held the protest meeting.
later, a delegation of teachers and staff members submitted a memorandum to the Collector for the Chief Minister, Higher Education Minister and Commissioner for immediate fulfilment of a charter of demands. They said that though the Government had promised to provide GIA within a month during the Monsoon Session of the Assembly, it has not yet done anything in this regard. They threatened to boycott invigilation duty during the annual +2 and +3 exams and also the valuation works of CHSE and universities.
662 college staff union Cuttack district president Ashok Parija, vice president Bijaya Parida, secretary Surendra Penthoi, Yasodhara Mohapatra, Pranaya Manjari Mohanty, Premjit Ray, Sabitri Sastri, Rasmirekha Barik, Madhusudan Nayak and Ranjit Swain among others were present.
