As many as 62 kids of the Maa Saraswati Tutorials, a local coaching centre, were taken ill after consuming chocolates given to them by a Home Guard, Sudam Nayak, on his son’s birthday on Tuesday.
Students felt head reeling and started vomiting after consuming chocolates. Villagers rushed all the students to the CHC here. As 45 of the kids developed respiratory problems, they were shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
While 15 children have been released, the rest were still undergoing treatment at the two hospitals.
local police have started investigation into the incident.
Parents alleged that their kids were not given proper treatment at the Banapur CHC as many of doctors were absent.
As many as 21 tutorials are now running illegally in the town. Teachers belonging to Government schools are teaching in these institutions.
