60 Brahmapur schools 'flout' RTE Act

Published on:

lok Shakti Abhiyan State president Prafulla Samantara and Ganjam district president Madhusundan Sethy have alleged that the Central and State Governments have failed to provide the right to free and compulsory education under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.

Samantara said as per the Act, all private schools have to reserve 25 per cent of seats free but in Brahmapur among 86 private schools about 60 schools are flouting the rules as per RTI sources.

He said the State Government was showing discrepancies by closing the Government schools which is highly condemnable. On the contrary, about 11 private schools in Gopalpur were given No Objection Certificate (NOC) without checking their basic facilities like playgrounds, library and others, he mentioned.

The Ganjam District Education Officer (DEO) has not taken any action against the schools flouting the RTE law, he lamented.

Samantara demanded strengthening of the Government school system, free education to the children in the private schools, a probe into the RTE Act violation and stringent action against the errant.
