Even as six years have passed to the murder of two children in Kumelsingha village under Attabira police station limits, the local police and the Crime Branch are yet to nab the culprits. Fed up with the shoddy probe, now the villagers have demanded transfer of the case to the CBI.
Source said the bodies of Umesh Pradhan and Silu Behera had been found on May 12, 2007 at Kumelsingha UGME School. Police had also recovered foot wears and a mobile phone from the spot. On May 17, 2007, the villagers had blocked road demanding arrest of the culprits and handing over the case to the Crime Branch (CB).
So, on June 17, 2007 the CB had taken over the case. But the CB had failed to zero in on the culprits. On August 22, 2007, the then CB DSP Kailash Chandra Mishra himself had visited the village and started an investigation. Also members in the Assembly had created an uproar demanding proper investigation and arrest of the culprits.
The Government had assured positive steps but later nothing tangible had happened. Kumelsingh villagers have threatened to intensify their stir if the Government did not take proper action to arrest the culprits.
