A case has come to the fore in Kendrapada district’s Rajkanika block where a six-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a youth on Sunday evening at Bagahabuda under the Rajkanika police station, said PS IIC Bijay Mallick on Monday.
A cobbler, Babu alias Baburam Mochi, who is a native of Ganjam district and has been residing in a rented house at Baghabuda and mending shoes at Rajkanika, allegedly lured the girl with a chocolate before raping her near a field.
When some locals witnessed his act, he fled from the spot, leaving the girl. The father of the girl, a student in that local school, lodged an FIR at the Rajkanika police station and the police detained Babu on Monday and sent the victim girl and Babu for medical examination. After the age of the detainee is ascertained, he would be arrested and produced before court, said PS IIC Mallick.
