5T, rice issues rock State Assembly

The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday witnessed pandemonium as the ruling BJD and opposition BJP locked horns over the 5T issue and deduction of 5 kg of rice by the Centre.

During Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra targeted the Government over the 5T issue and questioned how the 5T secretary became the CMO (Chief Minister’s Office).

On the other hand, the BJD protested against the Centre’s deduction of 5 kg of rice which was provided by it to counter the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. BJD MLAs stood at their seats holding banners and posters.

The BJD accused the BJP of not allowing a discussion on topics that involve common people’s interest. The BJD alleged that the saffron party was creating ruckus in the House over irrelevant matters.

BJD MLA ArunSahoo said the Centre has discontinued 5-kg rice which was distributed to beneficiaries during Covid-19.

“The Centre used to procure 17-18 lakh MT of rice from the State and now it is reluctant for rice procurement,” Sahoo later told the media.
