5G: State issues advisory to avoid fraudsters

Published on:

The Odisha Government on Friday issued an advisory for citizens in connection with the 5G SIM fraud. It advised them to be careful while switching from 4G to 5G network.

The citizens have also been advised not to click links of unknown sources.

How is 5G SIM fraud done?

Fraudsters target victims via call or suspicious link on social media, SMS, WhatsApp, etc.

Once the call is received or the link is clicked, fraudsters send SMS offering an upgrade of the existing 4G plan to 5G plan.

During interaction, they cunningly obtain OTP and other details.

How to protect yourself?

Block the suspicious number, from which the request is coming.

Refrain from clicking on suspicious links even from known people.

Always remember, telecom companies never ask for OTPs to provide 5G service.

If strangers contact under the guise of offering advanced booking or special offers, they should be treated as spam calls.
