While an alarming number of 573 kidney-affected persons are waiting to get treatment in Cuttack district’s Narasinghpur block, the State Government’s recent awakening seems to bring some relief to the patients as well as the locals.
According to official sources, while 573kidney patients are in treatment condition, over 300 patients have already succumbed to the disease during the last five years. Unofficially, the death toll would be more than the official number.
Sources said a high-level team of health experts, comprising skilled doctors, would soon reach the block to take appropriate measures against the spread of the disease. A decision to this effect has been taken after the SHARP, a local voluntary organisation, placed a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir to this effect recently. SHARP secretary Bijay Panda informed that the Govornor has directed the Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary to send a high-level doctors’ team to Narasinghpur. The team would provide treatment facilities to the patients and is expected to analyze the reasons for the spread of the killer disease here.
