55 KBK Plus II teachers continue stir

Plus II teachers of eight Higher Secondary Schools functioning under the SC and ST Development Department are continuing their dharna since December 8 in front of the State Assembly demanding regularisation of their jobs.

The eight upgraded schools having Plus II classes across the KBK districts were shut down due to teachers’ strike. Around 4,000 students, mostly tribal, would be affected due to the indefinite stir of all the 55 teachers.According to a teacher, Keshab Das of Rayagada, they were appointed by the Government in 2006 as Junior lecturers in the Higher Secondary Schools.

The Government had promised them to regularise their services after six years, but in vain. In 2012, the Government, instead of regularising their jobs, kept mum by increasing their salary by a meagre amount, he added. The protestors are demanding the facilities enjoyed by the teachers of the Higher Education Department.   Das said their agitation would continue till the demands are fulfilled.
