The Government on Thursday announced to fill up 5,371 posts of doctors and key paramedics staff in hospitals across the State. The cumulative vacancy in the posts of doctors and paramedical staff was created due to lack of concern on the part of the Government since 2000 to fill up the posts which led to the deterioration of health services in the State.
Ahead of the Urban local Body (UlB) elections, the notification of which is likely to be announced any time now, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced the recruitment after taking stock of the shortage of doctors and the para-medical staff in a review meeting. He directed the Health and Family Welfare Department authorities to initiate the process to fill up the vacant posts.
The process to complete the recruitment would be completed by March 2014, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Damodar Rout after the meeting. He said as per the decision as many as 436 assistant surgeons and 200 dental surgeons would be appointed against the vacant posts.
Similarly, 4,735 of paramedics posts would be filled up, of which 1,024 are staff nurse, 1,885 health workers (female) and auxiliary nursing mid wives, 125 radiographer, 433lab technicians and 1,268 health worker (male). Since the National Urban Health Mission and Rastriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram are all set to be launched very soon in the State, most of ANMs would be absorbed under the twin scheme. Meanwhile, Minister Rout said the Capital Hospital would be upgraded while four nursing colleges would be set up in Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
