A Shiva linga, which was worshipped by mythological character Banasur, has been discovered at the Banpur Reserve Forest. The single-structure linga has as many as 1,008 miniature Shiva lingas on it. Banasur, son of Bali and a demon-king who is said to have ruled over this place, used to offer milk to the linga. Banpur was the capital of Banasur. Though the capital and Gargh of Banasur were destroyed 5,000 years ago, the Archeological Department has found its existence at Punjiama village of Niladriprasad in Banpur.
