More than 50 students fell ill on Friday after taking midday meal (MDM) in Brahmanidihi village under Sohela block of Bargarh district.
Soon after taking the meal, the students developed pain in stomach and some of them also started vomiting. The panicky teachers and villagers rushed them to the nearest Sohela Government hospital for treatment.
The doctors started immediate treatment of the students with medicines and only two were given saline. However, their condition improved rapidly and all of them were discharged from hospital in the evening.
It is learnt that with rice, the students were given soya curry in the MDM as per the weekly menu.
“We are yet to know what really happened. But an inquiry will be made soon to ascertain the cause," said Sohela block BEO Amrita Sahu who was very much present during the treatment of the students and monitoring it with the help of doctors and teachers.
