The Baleswar police administration has introduced identity cards for the auto drivers in the town in order to regulate and monitor the movement of the auto rickshaws.
On Thursday about 50 auto drivers were issued with the identity cards in the first phase. A meeting held on the occasion was attended by SP Niti Sekhar, ADM MM Pani, RTO Amresh Patra, Sadar SDPO Amresh Panda , OIC Traffic police station Prasant Ransingh and former MlA Pradipta Panda.
Ransingh said, “In the initial phase, 50 drivers were issued with the identity cards and there are about 500 drivers who are plying autos in the town. All auto drivers would be issued identity cards latest by December 31.” The identity card bears relevant information on the driver and auto. The cards are issued after taking all the documents into account.
“We have coded all the autos as per zone. The code number would be prominently written in the autos so that it would be used to track the vehicle. In the next phase, all the drivers driving school and college buses would also be issued with identity cards after due verification. The whole objective is to regulate vehicles in view of passenger safety and effective traffic management,” Ransingh added.
