5-year-old devoured by stray dogs in Puri

In a bizarre incident, a five-year-old boy was eaten by stray dogs in Puri town in broad day light on Thursday.

Deceased’s father Hrudanada Rout who originally belongs to Phulabadi village under the Athagarh police station of Cuttack district shifted to Puri along with his family to earn his living as a daily wager. He was living in Jagannath colony of Matiapada under the Kumbharpara police limits.

On Thursday while Hrudananda was away from home and his wife was preparing lunch, their five-year-old son Satyaban faced the attack of stray dogs while playing in the back yard of the house.

The dogs dragged the child to a nearby bush and severed his body. Some neighbours spotted the child and rushed him to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where the doctor declared him brought dead.

The Kumbharpara police seized the body and sent it for post mortem. A case was registered.

Notably, over four decades the civic body has not taken any step to tackle stray dog, bovine and simian menace in the city while residents have been falling victim to unwarranted incidents. It is high time the municipal authority should take care of the issue, demanded the locals.
