A week after all coaches of an express train rolled down 13 km without an engine in Balangir district, another such incident occurred at Panapana in Baleswar district on Saturday evening where five wagons got detached from goods train and stayed back while the engine along with other bogies moved ahead for two km.
The goods train carrying coals was on its way from Dhamra in Bhadrak to Tata Nagar when the mishap occurred at Panapana, about 4 km from Bahanaga station, towards Khantapara.
No casualty or damage was reported. Train movement was stopped for two hours.
Station Manager Bhagabat Das said the detachment occurred as the coupling joint between two wagons broke, and the things were brought to order after about two hours of exercise.
“The unfastened wagons were brought to the Khantapara station. The wagon of which coupling system was broken was removed. Finally, the train moved with 58 wagons towards its destination after two hours of the incident,” said Das. Movement of other trains on the route was affected for two hours, he said.
Das said the guard and the driver could know soon after the wagons got detached as there was a drop on the airbrake pressure.
It may be noted that 22 bogies of Ahmedabad-Puri Express had rolled down 13 km from Titlagarh station during change of engine.
The Railway authorities suspended seven officials in this connection.
