The Nayagarh Superintendent of Police on Sunday suspended five police personnel on the charge of negligence in duty. The action against the personnel was taken after an under trial prisoner (UTP) escaped on August 9, while he was being escorted from the Khandapada Sub-Jail to the Bhapur court.
All the five police personnel were guarding the UTP Tapan Rout. Taking advantage of the carelessness of the police personnel, Rout had managed to escape from their custody.
“The accused has managed to flee, while he was being taken to the court. The duty officials, who were escorting the accused persons have been suspended,” said Nayagarh additional SP, Dillip Sahani.
Interestingly, it was for the third time in three months that Tapan, who was arrested from Fategarh area in the district for allegedly raping a minor girl, gave the cops a slip.
According to reports, Rout had first escaped from the jail by climbing the boundary wall on August 3. Prior to it, Rout had escaped from the jail on June 10.
