As many as five members of a family of Hariharnagar village in Dunguripali block under Subarnapur district are learnt to have been detained at a brick kiln at Ramchanda village under Banagiri police limits in Telangana.
Despite a complaint with the District labour Office by an old man of the family, the authorities have failed to rescue them. Worse still, the complainant is harassed at the DlO and made to move from pillar to post in the ongoing summer.
As per reports, labour contractor of Naktimunda village Samaru Meher came to Hariharnagar village and lured the residents into working in a brick factory in Telengana. He promised good wages to the labourers. Tempted by the offer, five persons of a family, Rambha Sahu, Keshab Sahu and their two grand daughters and one grand son, had left for Telengana. However, their ordeal started once they reached there.
The workers were tortured physically and mentally instead of being provided with the promised remuneration of Rs 7,000 per month. The owner of the bricks factory kept them in a large area having boundary wall and locked them in a room. The family of the victims alleged that their lives are in danger.
However, after an allegation in this regard three months back, the DlO has failed to rescue these laborers.
When contacted, District labour Officer Dileswar Khakha said, “We are already in touch with the administration and the owner of the bricks factory of Telengana. The victims will be released soon.”
