The State Government has a proposal to set up mini stadiums in all the 314 blocks in the State, said Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudam Marandi here on Wednesday. Construction of mini stadium has already started in 111 blocks in the first phase and 49 more would be set up in the second phase, he said. There are proposals for construction of five mini stadiums in rural areas in Ganjam district.
The Brahmapur Stadium’s construction would be completed soon. The Weightlifting Academy in Gopalpur would also be shifted to Brahmapur, he informed at a review meeting held here.
There is a proposal for construction of swimming pools at Chhatrapur and Brahmapur, but lands for the purpose have not yet been identified, he said.The Minister also asked officers to resolve the issues of water and food supply to the Brahmapur Stadium’s Sports Hostel.
The meeting was attended by MlAs of Sanakhemundi, Polasara and Chhatrapur. The Ganjam Collector and officials of concerned departments were present.
