A head-on collision between a scooter and a motorcycle near Kesaripatana under the Sorada police limits in Ganjam district killed at least five persons and left another one critically injured on Thursday night.
As per reports, the mishap took place at around 11.20 pm when the scooter carrying three staffers of the electricity department and the motorcycle by which another three men were travelling dashed against each other.
While four of the victims died on the spot under the impact of the collision, another person was declared dead at hospital.
The deceased were identified as Srikanta Gouda of Asurabandha, Manoj Dakua of Dulada, Mahendra Nayak of Gopalpursasan, Jayant Batatya of Sorada and Rajani Gouda of Sanasorada.
The injured one, identified as Purna Gouda, was initially treated at the Sorada Hospital and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur for better treatment.
Police have started investigation into the incident.
