Five persons, including two children, were killed when a car by which they were travelling hit a stationary truck at Chuinbuda in Balangir district late on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Atmaj Nayak (25), who was driving the vehicle, his sister Ipsita Sai (27), her daughter Riya (6), Atmaj’s uncle Deeptiranjan Sai (35) and Deeptiranjan’s daughter Anvi (6).
The accident took place near Swayam Hotel on the Balangir-Sambalpur road when all of them were returning home after attending a wedding in Agalpur. The driver lost control over the wheels, following which the car rammed into the truck parked on the roadside.
Getting information, the Sadar police and Fire Service personnel reached the spot, recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital.
Later, Atmaj’s mother Arati (47) and Deeptiranjan’s wife Rasmita (29), who had sustained critical injuries in the mishap, were referred to the VIMSAR in Burla.
