Sukuda Grama Panchayat under Bhatli Block has been declared as Adarsh panchayat in Bargarh lok Sabha constituency. The panchayat consists of four villages with more than 2,500 inhabitants.
The Upar Pada of the Sukuda village has been affected by kidney disease. More than 10 persons are suffering from kidney ailments while already five persons have died in last seven months. According to sources, the drinking water in the area is highly contaminated and unfit for use. Ironically, the much-hyped Swachha Bharat Mission has failed there.
The affected ones include Bhima Pasayat (70), his wife Chandrabati (60), Judhistir Sa(44) Padmalochan Sa(40), Alekha Sahu(45), Dayasagar Dansena(40) and Shribsa Sarangi etc.
The Central Government has not provided special funds for the development of Adarsha Grama; only some developmental works have been conducted in the panchayat through MP and MlA lAD funds, said Bargarh MP Dr Prabhas Singh.
Singh discussed the matter with the district Collector and CDMO. later, a team of doctor was sent to the village on Wednesday for taking stock of the situation. Singh assured that necessary steps would be taken after obtaining the report of the team.
