5 B'swar hotels slapped closure notice

Taking note of violation of guidelines, the Pollution Control Board’s regional office here has issued notice to five hotels for their closure after noncompliance of direction.

Among them while two each are in Baleswar headquarters town and Chandipur near sea beach, one is at Bhograi, said PCB official Prakash Mohapatra.

Mohapatra informed that as many as 43 hotels of Baleswar, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj out of total 49 were issued notices following direction from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in August, 2015. While some of them complied with the orders, others approached courts. However, in Baleswar, five hotels, including the Pantha Niwas of OTDC, didn’t comply with the requirement.

He said that the hotels were served notices because either they didn’t obtain prior permission of the PCB or didn’t make adequate arrangement for waste water treatment, he stated.

On the other hand, Pantha Niwas manager RK Bej said, “After receipt of notice from the PCB in September, a treatment plant has been installed. After its trial run operation, the certificate would be deposited with the PCB as compliance.”
