A major accident was averted after five bogies of a goods train got detached from the engine near the Nidhipur Ghantikhal railway station in Athagarh on Monday morning.
However, no loss of life or injuries was reported in the mishap since there was no movement of any other train on the track at that time.
According to reports, the engine moved forward leaving five of its bogies and later halted at a distance near the railway station. The mishap affected road traffic on the Puruna Cuttack-Sambalpur route as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road at the Nidhipur level crossing.
As soon as railway officials were informed about the mishap, a maintenance team reached the spot for repair work. Later, train services were resumed.
