Upset over the Government not inviting them to the Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting held on Friday, lecturers and other employees of the 488-Category Block Grant colleges on Saturday threatened to hold a massive rally at the lower PMG here on Monday.
Nearly 10,000 teachers would participate in the rally, said 488-Categories Aided College Block Grant lETC and Employees’ Coordination Committee president Pabitra Mahala here at a Press conference here.
The association has been demanding abolition of the Block Grant system and implementation of full Grant-in-Aid (GIA).
Mahala said, “On Friday a-five-member Inter-Ministerial Committee called 11 other teachers’ associations for discussion whereas the panel did not take any decision regarding our demand, i.e., direct payment (GIA) with all service benefits from the date of eligibility.”
Instead of giving attention to the teachers’ problems, the Government is trying to suppress the association’s movement, he alleged.
The association reiterated that it would boycott the ensuing Plus II and III examinations.
