As many as 48 bonded labourers, who were stranded in Karnataka, returned to their houses in the Sanakhemundi area in Ganjam district late on Tuesday night following intervention of the State Government.

The labourers alleged that a contractor of Adapada, who had taken them to Karnataka for job, has taken away their salaries.

According to reports, the labourers were engaged at a company near Vaddi. They were not paid wages for past four months.

A few days back, they had informed the Ganjam district administration that the contractor had kept their wages with him.

Following this, the Labour Department directed the company authorities for their release. The victims arrived at the Brahmapur railway station late on Tuesday night.

However, the labourers sat at the station, demanding the labour officials to ensure payment of their dues. Later, they went to their houses after an assurance of action against contractor given to them by the administration, according to reports.
