46 years on, J'suguda lead college has no own building

The lN College at Jharsuguda has no building of its own although the college has completed 46 years. After formation of new district in the year 1994, things were expected to go better, but so far as higher education is concerned, the district is far behind others.

Consequently, the students are sitting in dharna for last 14 days demanding a permanent solution and college building after the State Government has directed the college authority to vacate the present building.

The district has two stalwart leaders - like Congress MlA Naba Das and chairman of WODC and former BJD MlA Kishore Mohanty. But political difference between the two hardly helps to solve the vital problem as regards higher education of the students here.

As per information, the Revenue Department took over the Commerce block and the adjoining land for construction of Collector’s office in 1994. To meet the requirement, the Industries Department handed over a portion of an engineering school to the lN College and the college functioned from there. It was decided then to register the land and buildings in the name of lN College but that could not materialize as on today.

The students, teachers and even common people are at loss after a current letter from the State Government to vacate the building where the college is functioning at present. “This is a gross negligence to the people of Jharsuguda who contribute a lot to the State exchequer.

Hence, the Government should not make any further delay to construct own building for the college and respect the sentiment of the people here,” said student union president lalmohan Ramdas.

He further suggested the political leaders to rise above narrowness and put pressure on Government for a new college building.
