A man was allegedly thrashed to death by a group of persons due to his consumption of liquor in the Siripur area of Keonjhar district late on Friday night.
According to reports, one Nityananda Nayak (45) of Janardanpur Sasan village under the Keonjhar Sadar police station had gone to Siripur, where he drank country liquor.
An exchange of words ensued between Nayak and some other persons while the former was in an inebriated state. In a feat of rage, the others attacked Nayak injuring him grievously and fled the spot.
Being informed, police reached the spot, rescued Nayak in a critical condition and admitted him to hospital. However, Nayak had succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Police detained six persons in connection with the incident for questioning.
