A 42-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday in Kalamatia village in Baro gram panchayat under Nikirai police station over a land dispute. Police detained a person in the case, said Nikirai police station IIC Kiran Hembrum.
According to Hembrum, Sukanti Rout (42), wife of Ramesh, was found hanging on a mango tree near her house. Her family found that her hand was sliced with a sharp blade.
The woman’s son lodged an FIR at Nikirai police station on Wednesday and alleged his uncle Akhaya, with help from Bhaskar, allegedly cut the hand of his sleeping mother, strangled and then hanged her on a tree to colour it as suicide.
Police sent the body for autopsy, a case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC was registered, while Akhaya was detained for interrogation.
