Under the Harischandra Yojana, financial aid for the needy for performing last rites of a member of family is given. But this been a distant dream for 403 poor families in Tangarpali block of Sundargarh district. These poor families have not yet got assistance of Rs 2,000 under the scheme even long after death of their family members.
The fund towards Harischandra scheme is not coming to Tangarpalli block for last two years and the poor people of Tangarpalli block after losing their family members are running from pillar to post to get Rs 2,000.
Sources said till March, for Harischandra scheme payment, 60 applications are pending in Mangaspur panchayat, 35 applications pending in Remanda panchayat, 20 pending in Jogimal panchayat, 30 in Nialipali panchayat, 45 in Ujalpur panchayat, 30 in Jiripasira panchayat, 25 in Gambardih panchayat, 30 in Sanapatrapalli panchayat, 30 in Ratanpur panchayat, 10 in Tangarpali panchayat, 35 in Meghadega panchayat, 25 in Tasladih panchayat and 28 applications are pending in Mahupali panchayat.
Tangarpalli Block Development Officer S Das had written to the District Panchayat Officer on March 24 regarding these pending applications and for clearance of payment under Harischandra scheme but no action has been taken yet.
