About 4,000 people still remain marooned in Brahmagiri block badly requiring relief items like polythene sheets and rice, even as it has been a month since Phailin struck the coast.
Some are forced to spend sleepless nights under the wintry sky with nothing over their heads. With their homes destroyed in the cyclone, they do not even have a polythene sheet from the Government machinery to put over their heads as roof.
With most of the schools still water logged, children are yet to open their books. Since the area remains water logged, survey work for assessing damages remains a non-starter.
“When survey work is yet to begin how you can expect compensationIJ”asks a villager. Many places still remained without power. The villagers complained that the administration has only once visited Rahadmal gram panchayat using a boat.
Goudaranapatna and Krushnasaranpur villages under this panchayat, 18 km from the block headquarters, with 200 families and a combined population of 4,000, remain water logged with villagers using country boats for their daily needs. The condition of Bada Harijan Sahi and Sana Harijan Sahi are the worst hit.
