Police on Monday seized about 400 bottles of banned cough syrup and arrested a youth.
Sources said acting in a tipoff, a team of police from Plant site police station conducted a raid on Monday and recovered the bottles of banned cough syrups and arrested the youth, involved in its trading.
The accused was identified as Rakesh Patra (28), a resident of Sector-20 area here. During interrogation, the police came to know that these cough syrups were imported from neighboring Jharkhand through another trader. These 100 ml. cough syrups bottles are sold at a price of Rs 120 per bottle, sources said.
These cough syrups are normally consumed by the youth mass as an alternative to liquor.
“He was arrested under NDPS act, since these cough syrups have extra dose of drugs and therefore its sale has been banned in Odisha,” said Plant Site police station IIC U Pradhan. “We are further investigating the case,” Pradhan added.
