In a significant breakthrough, the Commissionerate police seized 40 kg of ganja from Saheed Nagar here on Thursday night and arrested three peddlers after a film-style car chase.
The contraband peddlers were identified as Basudev Parida of Khordha and S Manoj and SK Mohan of Karnataka.
A mouser and cash of Rs 70,000 were also seized from their possession.
On a tipoff about ganja smuggling, a police patrolling party of the chased two cars bearing registration numbers OR 02 AZ 3773 and OD 33F 8200. After intercepting both the vehicles and frisking them, cops found a number of packets of ganja and seized them.
Police said as two of the arrested peddlers hail from Karnataka, they suspect the involvement of an inter-State drug racket.
Police are interrogating the arrestees to trace other members of the racket. Of late, in a matter of serious concern the police have made huge seizures of ganja particularly from the areas under the Khandagiri police station jurisdiction.
