4 Nalco power station units stop generation

Published on:

The Nalco smelter plant here is currently running shortage of power as four of its 10 captive power plant (CPP) units have stopped generation. Now, the 1200-MW plant is producing only 720 MW of power.

While three units had been shut down, one more unit stopped operating recently due to technical problem.

Due to shortage of power, only 760 of 960 pots of the smelter plant are now functioning.

The Nalco had invested Rs 4,500 crore for expansion of the CPP in the second phase.

Due to shortage of power, expansion of the smelter plant is yet to yield expected output.

Previously, the Central PSU had shut down its many units due to acute shortage of coal. But now the situation has arised due to market crises and other technical reasons.

The NDA Government has allocated Utkal D and E coal blocks to the Nalco to feed its CPP. Previously the UPA Government had allocated coal block to the company.
