Four children, three boys and a girl, of Nuapada district, who had been missing for last few months, were rescued by the Chhattisgarh police under the SMIlE II (Mission Mustang II) and handed over to the CWC of Nuapada on Friday.

While the boys have been handed over to their parents, the girl named Satya Bibhar, a resident of Khariar Road town, has been sent to an Open Shelter Orphanage located at Khariar.

“I don’t want to return to my home in the absence of my mother,” said Satya, a Class IV student, adding, “My father is a drunkard. He beats me severely when he comes home being drunk.”

Satya’s mother is currently working at Mahasamund in Chhatishgarh as a maid. Satya was rescued at the Bilashpur railway station and kept in a short-stay home for a month.

“Before leaving for an unknown destination, Satya had met her mother at Mahasamund and narrated her sorrow. But her mother advised her to return to her father. Then Satya boarded a train and reached Bilashpur where she was rescued by police.

The boys who are now with their parents are 14 to 16 years of age.

Keshari Bag of Kodobhata village in Sinapali block left home to earn and save money for higher study. He had secured 67 per cent marks in Class X board examination in 2015 and wanted to take admission in a Plus Two college but could not do so due to lack of money.

“As he is a SC boy, he could have availed scholarship but he did not know that,” said Dr F Deo, member of the Nuapada CWC.

Rescued Surendra Jagat of Babupali village was earning Rs 270 per day by working as a skilled worker. Bipin Jagat (14) of Dabri village was rescued from Raipur.
