As many as four minors, including three girls, lost their lives when they drowned in a rainwater-filled pit that was dug up for road construction work in Koraput district on Thursday.
The tragedy occurred near Majhiguda village under the Sadar police station in the afternoon when the children were playing in the pit that was filled with rainwater following heavy rains.
All the deceased, between five to seven years old, were the residents of Majhiguda.
On being informed, the Sadar police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident. A pall of gloom descended on the area following the tragedy.
