The Commissionerate police on Saturday forwarded to court four persons, who were allegedly exhorting illegal subscriptions regularly from various private bus operators at the Badambadi State bus terminus here.
The Badambadi police had picked up the four from the vicinity of the bus terminus on Friday evening while they were collecting money from the bus staffs. Police had also seized different amounts of money from each.
Police said they had received verbal complaints from several bus operators about the extortions in which the extortionists had warned of dire consequences to the complainants. Fearing retaliation, nobody ever made a written complaint.
A team of Badambadi police however, during routine patrol duty on Friday evening came across the extortionists, who were indulging in the nefarious activities. “After verifications, all the four were booked under Section 386 and 34 of IPC,” said City DCP Akhileswar Singh on Saturday.
