The Ganjam police on Friday arrested the four persons detained on the charge of gangraping a young woman on the New Year eve at Malhar village under the Ganjam police station even as fellow villagers of the victim woman staged a demonstration in front of the police stations demanding stringent action against the accused persons.
The arrests were made after it was confirmed during the medical test that the girl was raped.
The protestors called off their strike after the police informed them that the accused persons had been arrested.
It may be noted that while the victim was alone in her house and her mother and brother had gone to another village for some work on December 31 night last, she was raped by four persons.
The victim alleged in a written complaint on Wednesday that on the fateful night while she was alone in her house, first two persons came and threatened her. later, four other persons barged into her house and raped her for two days, December 31 night and January 1.
Following her complaint, the police began its investigations into the sensational incident.
