In a bid to sweep the apparent newly cropped up factionalism in the State Congress under the carpet, the party leaders on Monday reiterated that there is no rift in the party and they are united.
Four of the 12 Congress MlAs who had gone to New Delhi recently to meet party high command on Monday met leader of Opposition (loP) in the Assembly Narasingha Mishra at his official residence here.
The four MlAs, including Deputy leader of the Congress legislature Party Chiranjib Biswal, claimed it to be a routine ‘courtesy call’ on Mishra.
Sources said this was a patch-up effort after the high command reportedly asked the MlAs to sort out their issues with PCC president Prasad Harichandan and the loP.
The four MlAs who met Mishra were Chiranjib Biswal, Debendranath Sharma, Jogesh Singh and Ansuman Mohanty.
“We regularly come to meet the loP. Since the weather is cloudy and we have not gone to our constituencies, we came to meet him. It’s a courtesy call. The Delhi visit did not come up for discussion. There was nothing like a patch-up,” said Biswal.
Jogesh Singh stated, “I had come to the loP for advice from him regarding a High Court case. We also discussed party matters since the Assembly session is ahead.”
Mishra too maintained that the MlAs were on a courtesy visit and no specific issue was discussed.
“They had not come to discuss any issue in particular. There were no discussions about their Delhi tour and meeting with the party high command. I have no idea why they had gone. I have made no efforts to ascertain the purpose of their visit and there is no need to do that either,” said Mishra.
