3rd day: BU NMR staff strike

Published on:

Non-muster roll (NMR) employees of the Berhampur University have continued their 24-hour relay hunger strike in front of the Administrative Block in the campus demanding regularisation of their jobs. The strike entered third day on Saturday.

According to reports, the university has 187 NMR employees. Out of them, jobs of the 112 employees have been regularised. The rest 76 employees have been demanding the Government to regularise their jobs, but nobody pays heed to their demands, said agitated employees’ leader Rama Chandra Padhy. Earlier, the employees had staged 12-hour riley hunger strike starting from March 25 to April 5 to impose pressure on the university authorities. “If the State Government does not take steps to regularise their jobs, they would self immolate their lives,” threatened the employees.
